This song is one of my top 5 favorites! I learned it on the guitar 40+ years ago, and sang it to my kids as they grew. Of course, life happens and took me away from my guitar practice, but we never stopped singing this song :-)
I know it is one of your favorites. That's part of the reason I wrote about it, :-> I'll bet your kids are better off having learned this song. It's a good choice.
So sad to hear of David's passing. I did have the pleasure of meeting him once, in 1977, at the Old Dominion Folk Festival in Norfolk, VA. (Yes, I really did drive from New Brunswick to Norfolk for a folk festival!) I remember David performing The Garden Song, which I never forgot and recognized when I later heard Pete singing it, as well as Arlo (via the recording of his concert with Pete at Carnegie Hall which I was not at) and always remembered "I know that song! I saw the guy who wrote it perform it!" I did not remember all of the words, however, so never caught on to Pete's upweave.
Being dedicated gardener myself, going way back to my childhood on our farm, I have always enjoyed this song!
What lovely wisdom to share. Thank you.

Pete was indeed an "upweaver." Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed this a lot.
Thanks. I am happy to hear that.
